Faceted Stone Ring

I was encouraged by someone on etsy to give this a try; making a ring with a faceted stone. Thanks Tiff! xo

I wrote a little bit about making this ring: here
(I actually don’t know if it makes much sense, I stayed up all night making the ring and now I’m still in a daze.)

Goodnight,

I want to take you far from the cynics in this town
&kiss you on the mouth-

I’m the kind of person who remembers things through emotions. I don’t remember visual things like colors. I don’t remember words, or sounds. The most vivid things about my memory is how I felt at the time. And when time’s rough, it’s all like a big blur to me. Emotions mixed together like a big mess. I have such a strong connection to blurred photos because that’s how I remember my past. It’s nostalgic to me.

Art History Tidbit:

Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot – Souvenir de Mortefontaine

Later in his career, Corot painted beautiful dreamy paintings in his studio from memory. He called them souvenirs (memory/remember.) They have a soft, airy tone that shows the nostalgic connections the artist has to those locations. He painted several paintings similar to the one shown above. The colors and landscape changes between the paintings – it can be interpreted that when you look back on a single memory over time your preception changes and you remember it differently.

So, for those of you who don’t know, I took this semester off. I didn’t really know why exactly I just knew I wanted time to figure things out and find out exactly where I belong next semester (gotta take things slow, I have no idea where I’ll be next spring.) And after doing so, things got pretty crazy at home – and it was a good thing that I was here dealing with things rather than being away at school. & Somewhere in between all the craziness I started to see things clearly.

Things started becoming bright for me. It was kinda like the time I learned what a 5 filter was. (for those of you photoshop geeks it’s a way of increasing contrast in the darkroom -like an overlay layer on a b&w photo.) Originally all I saw were these muddy greys &now I can see clearly: the good and the bad. And although I can’t say right now is a happy time in my life, I can say I know where I’m heading and I’m doing what I can (almost; I just need that push start to get me going again.)

I need to stop telling myself TOMORROW I will change. We can’t wait; I can’t justify my procrastination. If change is going to happen, it happens NOW. (If my dorm things weren’t still in boxes I’d look for a good quote from Why We Can’t Wait by MLK Jr.) If it’s something you WANT to happen, then there’s no time left to put it off. Be the change you want to see. Make it Happen. No one is stopping you.

We’ll cut our bodies free
from the tethers of
this scene,
start a brand new colony.

Where everything will change,
we’ll give
ourselves new names.

P.S. Remember this ring?

I’m making a few of them as ‘made to order’s for a low price since I’m still learning.
Since it is going to be a learning experience they might not be perfect, but if you’re like me then you’ll find beauty in the imperfections. Let me know if you’re interested or just want more details (you can send me an email at xoErica(at)live.com or just send me a convo through etsy! )
